Recycling activities in Spain using Octopussy and Fortune Teller.

Latvian students visited the Water Supply Museum

Rīga’s Water Supply Museum is one of the most remarkable water supply museums in Europe. The museum was founded in 1988 and is located in the old Baltezers water supply station. Through its exhibits, one can follow the development of water management from the Middle Ages through to today.
Water Supply
The City of Rīga’s drinking water is obtained from two sources – the surface resource “Daugava” and underground resource “Baltezers – Zaķumuiža”.
Water supply from underground resources
For the most part, the underground resource “Baltezers – Zaķumuiža” ensures centralized water supply to consumers residing on the right bank of the Daugava. Water is taken from more than 300 groundwater and 15 pressurized filter wells drilled into quaternary rock up to a depth of 150 meters. The underground water reserve is supplemented with water from Mazais Baltezers using the infiltration method.
To ensure water conservation and renewal, and to minimize the negative effect of pollution on water to be obtained, underground water procurement points are guarded by a specified protection zone covering a total area of 83 km2 in the Ādaži and Garkalne region.
The underground water resource “Baltezers – Zaķumuiža” is capable of producing up to 85,000 m3 of drinking water in a 24 hour period. The quality of the drinking water complies with European standards with the exception of a portion that has an increased amount of iron and manganese content. To ensure the compliance of this indicator with EC regulations, an iron removal station is due to built in the near future.
